What XTrack does. When you choose to track an email you send from Gmail, XTrack inserts an invisible 1×1 tracking pixel. When the recipient's email client loads that pixel, XTrack records an "open" event (the time, plus a coarse classification of whether it looks like a genuine open or an automated pre-fetch).
What we store. The tracked message's Gmail thread/message id, recipient, and subject (so we can show you status), and the open events. Each open event records the time and a coarse, approximate location (country, region, and city) derived from the opener's network at the moment of opening. We do not store the raw IP address. Your Google account id and email are stored so we can sign you in, keep your tracking data scoped to you, recognize your account when you return, and understand how many people use XTrack. We never use your email for updates unless you opt in (below). When you track an email, XTrack also rewrites its links to pass through a redirect on our domain so it can record clicks; each click records the time, the destination link, and a coarse, approximate location. Unlike opens (which Gmail routes through Google's servers), clicks come from the recipient's own browser, so a click's location is the recipient's approximate location.
Email list. If you opt in, we add your email address to our list (via Resend) to send occasional XTrack updates. Every email includes one-click unsubscribe.
Website analytics. On this website (xtrack.cc) we use PostHog, a product analytics tool, to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. It records page views, clicks, and other interactions on the site, and sets cookies for that purpose. This covers the website only; it is separate from, and unrelated to, the email tracking the extension performs. PostHog processes this data on our behalf, and we do not use it for advertising.
What we never do. We never sell or share your data or your recipients' data with third parties for advertising. We never track an email you didn't choose to track. Use the per-message toggle in compose to turn tracking off.
Retention. Open and click events are pruned after about 12 months.
